Overview

MAHIPSO’s Health Service Delivery Program is the organization’s core pillar, rooted in the organization’s history and identity as a rural-based, peer-led initiative. Originating from its early support group work at Kitovu Blood Bank, MAHIPSO continues to deliver a comprehensive health package to Structurally Excluded Persons—communities that often face discrimination, stigma, and limited access to healthcare services. The program aims to improve health outcomes through non-discriminatory care, physical and virtual outreach, distribution of key health commodities, and psychosocial support. Embracing innovation, MAHIPSO is investing in telehealth tools, toll-free lines, mobile apps, and its MAHI-Connect app to expand access and ensure timely, quality care to underserved populations.

To further strengthen its impact, MAHIPSO will establish and operate clinics and drop-in centers providing integrated services such as HIV, TB, and malaria care; adherence support; and harm reduction referrals. The organization will also advance GBV/IPV and SRHR interventions, including mental health and family planning services, while enhancing health data management through the Integrated Key Population Information System (IKIS). These efforts align with national policies and strategies, such as the HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Act, the National Gender Policy, the Domestic Violence Act, and various national HIV/AIDS frameworks, reinforcing MAHIPSO’s commitment to equitable, inclusive, and rights-based healthcare delivery.

Health Services Delivery Activities

1. MAHIPSO Clinics and Drop-In Centres (DICs)

MAHIPSO operates community-based clinics and DICs that provide inclusive, confidential, and comprehensive healthcare services to Structurally Excluded Persons. Services include HIV testing and counseling, TB and malaria screening, STI treatment, ARV refills, adherence support, and referrals for specialized care. These centers are safe spaces where clients can access care without stigma or discrimination.

2. Strategic Health Partnerships

MAHIPSO collaborates with local governments, district health offices, and private health providers to strengthen health systems and improve service delivery. These partnerships enhance access to quality healthcare, support integrated service delivery, and foster community health resilience

3. Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Interventions

Through trauma-informed care and survivor-centered approaches, MAHIPSO provides medical, legal, and psychosocial support to individuals affected by GBV and IPV. Services include post-violence care, legal referrals, counseling, and community sensitization to prevent and respond to violence.

4. MAHI-Connect App (Digital E-Health Solution)

The MAHI-Connect App is a digital platform developed to streamline health service delivery, facilitate appointment scheduling, send medication reminders, and provide access to health information. It supports improved patient engagement and health outcomes, especially for youth and remote users.
